Whether you are island hopping or you’ve just got a few trips abroad in the pipeline, you might be wondering if the bikinis you have are enough to cater for these trips, but also, do they even still flatter you, are comfortable, will they last and do you actually still like them. Beyond the basics, it’s nice to have a couple of jazzy styles and a variety of styles for you to choose from when you are on vacation.
Packing a bag full of bikinis and the odd pair of clothes is the way forward and how I want to pack for every occasion, especially when I plan on being on a beach in the sun every single day. They are just a great thing to have and with so many styles to choose from, you are probably wondering how many would suit you best and what to search for when you are planning on purchasing a couple of styles this summer.
Fear not, fellow adventure queen! Here is your guide to not only packing but also choosing your ultimate bikini rotation for your holidays this summer.
Mix and Match
These are the basics and some simple patterns are the best. You can essentially get 2 other bikinis for the price of one sometimes. Have you ever bought a bikini set and realised that you loved the bottoms but not the top? I can.
So here is your best opportunity to get the basics of the bikini sets down, such as a black, white, brown, or blue bikini top or bottom, and match them with styles you may have collected over time. For example, a black bikini top with some leopard print bottoms would go down a treat. Get creative when you are on your holidays and you will feel like you are getting the most out of your pieces.
Pack smarter, not harder and pick the styles that you know are very versatile with shape and colour. You don’t want to pack all of the same style just in case some activities call for different types of bikinis so always keep that in mind along with colour.
Try Different Ways
Something that I love about social media is that you can turn on your bikini and wear it however you want; there is no right or wrong way to wear a bikini. For example, with the classic triangle bra, you can wear it upside down and cross the straps in any way that you see fit. These little things can breathe new life into your pieces, eliminating the need to pack and buy multiple styles.
What Styles To Choose From
Speaking of activities, it’s pretty obvious that you wouldn’t wear certain styles to sunbathe in and others to wear for water activities so here is a comprehensive list of bikini styles for you to consider.
- Swimsuit
- Tankini tops
- Balconette, cross halter, triangle and cut-out bikini tops
- Bandeaue, Plunge, and Underwire bikinis tops
- Swim shorts
- High-waisted, thong or Brazilian bottoms
These are just a small selection of general and the most popular bikini styles you will come across. Some styles are just aesthetically pleasing and others are more practical. Figuring out what shape, style and what you will be using the bikini for will influence your choice.

What Styles Are Best For What?
We have put together what styles we think are best for a number of popular activities you are likely to take part in during your trip.
Sunbathing
When it comes to sunbathing, you want something that is both well-fitted and can give you the best all-around tan. It’s a very popular activity for people to enjoy while they are on holiday and there are a couple of styles that allow both a seamless experience and the best results.
Triangle and bandeau bikinis with thong bottoms will show the most skin and give more flattering tan lines. Not only that but you can temporarily untie the top to avoid lines on your chest and shoulders.
Swimming
Support is the main determining factor here. Ideally, you want one that fits everywhere and possibly a style that doesn’t come untied. I would recommend a halter neck bikini; this not only prevents any straps from flying off your shoulders but also keeps the girls secure. Bottoms you want them to fit nicely so water doesn’t pull them off so go for ones that are snug around the hips.
Watersports
A swimsuit is always the safer choice but you can also get swimsuits and shorts if you prefer. This is all about personal opinion and the type of sports you are enduring but finding bikinis that are stable and not prone to falling off will save all of the discomfort during these activities.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to selecting which styles are best for you it comes down to your personal preference, activities and duration of your holiday. Comfort is key and you should have fun with your bikini styles. Try new bikini sets and have fun!
